The sunflower seed is the fruit of the sunflowe (Helianthus annuus). Sunflower seeds are an excellent source of dietary fiber , vitamin E and several B vitamins. Additionally, they are rich in cholesterol-lowering phytosterols. The term "sunflower seed" is actually a misnomer when applied to the seed in its pericarp (hull). When dehulled, the edible remainder is called the sunflower kernel or heart. We source black and striped sunflower as well as sunflower kernel (hearts), typically from Eastern Europe and China, although Argentina and the US are large exporters too.
